Oral Cavity Cancers:
 

Oral cavity cancer, or just oral cancer, is cancer that starts in the mouth (also called the oral cavity).
Oropharyngeal cancer starts in the oropharynx. This is the part of the throat just behind the mouth.
Most cancers that form here are a type of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. 
But other types of cancer, and other benign growths and tumors, can also form.

The diagnostic process for oral cancer begins with a visit to an ear-nose-throat (ENT) doctor, which

usually involves a head and neck examination, endoscopy, biopsy, and imaging tests to confirm and

determine the spread of oral cancer. 

1. Endoscopy - In addition to a head and neck exam, an ENT doctor may perform an endoscopy to better

examine your throat.

2. Biopsy - In order to confirm an oral cancer diagnosis, an ENT doctor must take a biopsy (a tissue

sample) of the concerning area.
