MUCORMYCOSIS (BLACK FUNGUS) INFECTION, POST COVID RECOVERY

What is killing hundreds of patients who have bravely defeated Covid recently? It is Mucormycosis - a fatal fungal infection that affects the nasal tract of mainly patients who have been on oxygen support for five days or more. ENT specialists are seeing a sudden spike in patients with this deadly infection.

Mucormycosis - also known as Black fungus, is an infection that starts from the nostrils, travels through the eye and reaches the brain, paralysing the nerves as it travels through the body. Onset of the infection is generally 2-3 weeks after recovery from Covid and patients with commodities and those on steroids are more at-risk.

If you have recovered from Covid but are experiencing symptoms like headache, fever, facial pain, pain under the eyes, partial vision loss, nasal discharge / blockage, immediately see an ENT specialist for a preventive checkup.

The ENT will do a nasal endoscopy to rule out black fungus infection and if required a CT scan may also be recommended.
